Our future: Sports, Arts & Culture at Park Farm

In 2018, the Centre was awarded financial support from The National Lottery’s Community Fund which will help to sustain and develop our wonderful community centre for the next five years. With this, we began a partnership with The Women’s Organisation in Liverpool, who we commissioned to evaluate the impact of our project. This work led to a new and exciting opportunity this year. Maggie O’Carroll, Chief Executive, met with us in September 2019 to discuss our visions for building regeneration.

As many of you will know, Park Farm Community Centre is an independent charity set up in 2008. We leased and refurbished a historic farmhouse on the estate, known locally as The Black House, to deliver our activities from. The building and grounds have come a long way over the years, but we still have ambitions to regenerate the building and improve its value as a community asset.

Maggie explained that she had been impressed and struck with the history of the Centre, the circumstances of our neighbourhood and our own team’s vision for the place. For several years, staff and trustees have attempted to push forward plans and bids for funding to refurbish our outdoor MUGA (multi-use games area). We also want to regenerate our Sports Hall to accommodate cultural opportunities more fully for our community.

The Women’s Organisation agreed to work with and support our proposed plans and have offered to liaise with several of their partners to hopefully bring our vision to life. The first step in this process has now been completed in the preparation of two vision boards (as shown above) which will be used to capture our ideas, to be a highlight and focus of further discussion, and ultimately to forming proposals to funders.

We look forward to reporting further as time and the project gets underway.

We want to involve you – our community – as the work progresses, so please stay tuned!
