As a result of the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram (in partnership with the Community Foundation for Merseyside) launched the LCR Cares COVID-19 Community Support Fund to support community and voluntary organisations on the frontline.

In May 2020, we were awarded £5,000 to deliver a 6-week project to assist in these relief efforts for the people of Carr Mill, Clinkham Wood and Moss Bank.

The emergency food parcels project had one aim: to help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by residents during the coronavirus pandemic, mainly older people and vulnerable families who were struggling to access food easily.

Of the funding awarded 95% was spent on six in-bulk food orders from Aldi Stores in Newton-le-Willows. The rest covered our volunteers’ travel costs, cardboard boxes, bags and printing.

The Steve Morgan Foundation also gave us £3,920 towards three months of running costs which was essential in ensuring we could sustain the building until we can reopen again!

We would like to thank all of the new volunteers who have supported us over the past six weeks. 12 local people responded to our call for help and freely gave their time, energy and community spirit to help alleviate the impact of the virus.

Many of our recipients have provided some lovely feedback which has certainly inspired and warmed their hearts.
